Before I start, let me give you a brief little definition of what an Evangelion (EVA) is. Essentially, "Evangelions are artificial beings created as versatile weapons against Angels. They are said to lack "souls" which are supplied by pilots who sit in "Entry plugs" situated in the EVAs' backbones. A pilot
needs to synchronise with an EVA in order to pilot it". (Definition taken from Encyclopedia Evangelion)
Like Asuka's plug suit, Eva Unit 02 is red in color. It's full "name" is Evangelion Unit-02 Production Model. It has four green eyes, 2 mouths and was built for actual hand to hand combat. Eva Unit 02 was built at NERV headquarters in Germany (the third unit ever made) and was the first production model built for actual combat - however, by order of Gendou, Unit 02 was later shipped off to Tokyo-3 along with Asuka and Kaji. Although assembled and manufactured in Germany, it was manufactured and designed in Japan. Its first battle was with aquatic angel, Gaghiel.
Weapons used by Unit 02 include the axe, the prog-knife (short for progressive knife), the Palette Rifle and particularily the spear (extensively used by Unit 02). The axe looks very ordinary in its appearance but it is in fact extremely powerful and can chop through practically anything and everything. The spear is a weapon with alot of capabilities and can be used against the angels (Asuka did use it, but..ehh..we know what happened eh?) Unfortunately, as the axes were fabricated, the spear became discarded and never again used or seen in the series. The Palette Rifle is a basic weapon employed by the Evangelions in battle. Although it was the weapon of choice during the period of the first kinds of "angels", it proved to be quite useless in killing them except on one occurance. The prog knife is a pulsating blade made out of a special alloy which gives the blade its sharp quality. Among all other weapons, this one is the most generally used by the Evangelions. Its location lies in the shafts above the Eva Unit's arms.
